PK4000 Vertical Sealer
Active Automation took on the challenge of converting a high speed pouch machine (PK4000) with AB PLC5 with Giddings & Lewis motion to ControlLogix with integrated motion. We removed the existing wiring, motors and large control panel and integrated all of the new components directly to the machine. We eliminated the industrial PC that was using Wonderware for the Operator Interface and added a Panelview Plus 1000 with updated screens and functionality. The original system did not have any pouch accumulation so we included an accumulation system that allowed for up to 2 minutes of run time before automatically shutting down the PK4000, this also included an automatic reject system that would coat the pouches in a Ultra Violet ink and reject them at the knife station. Secondly, we added a pouch synchronization system that would deliver 600 ppm (pouches / minute) to a on-demand cartoner that was a new purchase for our client.
